Comic Theater for Broke-Ass Heads
So yeah, we all know that New York is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Sometimes it's almost too much to deal with. Broadway tickets will run you $100 a pop, a family of four can't see a ballgame for less than $200, and a six-pack of 16 oz. cans of Miller High Life can run you up to $9, depending on the bodega/neighborhood. But every once in a while the city throws you a bone. A FREE bone!
Behold, Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. You might remember the name from the short-lived sketch show that ran on Comedy Central a few years back. Anyway, the UCB, which is essentially a home for emerging local improv troupes, offers two shows every Sunday night. The 7:30 show will cost you $7, but the 9:30 show is FREE!
Why is this significant? Because there are STARS in the 9:30 show. Real stars, like Horatio Sanz, Rachel Dratch, and Amy Poehler from Saturday Night Live, and Matt Walsh of The Daily Show, are all regular performers at these Sunday night shows.
UCB Theater is a nice, intimate space that holds only about 150 people, and the shows there are great. If you're interested in attending one of the free 9:30 performances, just drop by the theater at 8:15 the night of the show and take a number. They open the doors shortly before 9:30.
This is a chance to see some of the funniest comic actors in New York, hamming it up for the love of it. So enjoy.
