Something's up with indymedia, and it ain't right.

On Thursday, Rackspace Servers, UK, was given a subpoena to hand over 2 IMC servers, for a reason still currently unknown to the IMC community. As to who issued the subpoena, it was either the Swiss, Italians, or FBI, depending on the day of the week.

For a network that was created to cover the protests of the Seattle WTO conference/protest/riots, and as a central site in planning protests, direct actions, I do understand that some things on these servers, buried in the back, might be interesting to some government officials. And given the War on Terror, like the equally bullshit War on Drugs, means our civil liberties at home and abroad are being suspended. However, the mods of IMC are good about picking stuff up, usually.

Of course, as I reported in July, the Cyprus IMC founder and activist Petros Evdokas was investigated at the request of the FBI "see whether he was a threat to US interests."

As of today, IMC still is unaware of the reasons for the seizure, and Rackspace appears to be under a gag order as to why, or they themselves do no know. According to a FBI spokesman, the FBI is not behind it, but acting for a 3rd party. Very interesting, and another blow to journalists.
for developments...
