Suprise, a 5% bump
So when will we witness the October Suprise????
Besides a possible terror attack to cancel the election, there is the other suprise of Osama being dragged down the center of Congress by Bush. This is a little more than rumour, as I work with someone who is in the Special Forces, and his being privy to information we don't get, gave me a nod and the standard "I can't say anything about that." But as we know from Karl Rove, this is more than possible, and as for the terrorist attack well, I hope that Rove is not that evil, but...
A look around Infowars could put some of this into perspective, looking at some of the actual news articles, means this is more than just another internet rumour.

If it happens, it will be in the next few days, Halloween at the latest. It's something to be prepared for, and the bounce will need to be deflated, faster than it starts.

Feds Want Labels On Antidepressant Suicide Risk
With all the Jewish neo-con cabal "we invaded Iraq for Israel" conspiracy bullshit they've been spewing in the past year, I pretty much don't read Adbusters anymore. This is in no small part due to the fact that, after I told Kalle Lasn he was being a cock in a letter to the editor, I haven't received another copy of the magazine, even though I already paid for it (I've been a Friend of the Foundation subscriber for three years).
But I digress. Marxist-antisemites as they may be, one thing that Adbusters has done, which I have always appreciated, is putting the spotlight on antidepressant drugs, specifically with their project Prozac Spotlight. The aim of Prozac Spotlight is to draw attention to the fact that antidepressants have a tendency to increase the risk of suicide in new patients, particularly youngsters a fact which big drug companies like Eli Lily have been covering up, while greasing doctor's palms to get them to prescribe it.
Well, after over four years of shouting about it, the FDA is finally doing something albeit meager in compared to what should be done, which is to pull the drugs off the shelves. The FDA has, instead,
ordered that all antidepressants carry "black box" warnings that they "increase the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior" in children who take them.Welp, it ain't justice, but it's a start.

BBS: The Documentary
I got my first modem (300 "baud") when I was about 12 years old (I'm 25 now) and started BBSing from my DOS-based monochrome IBM PC XT with a 10MB HD. Whoa, acronyms. WTF is a BBS? A BBS is a bulletin board system, a precursor to online services like America Online and Prodigy. More or less, anyone with enough time on their hands and the technology at their disposal could set up one of these so-called BBSs on their home computer and allow people from the neighborhood to dial in to their computer and post messages, send e-mail, and trade files with other users. Most of these BBSs just permitted one user at a time, though, over time, some software made it possible for several users to be online at once. However, with the advent of services like AOL, and subsequently the opening of the Internet to the public sector, BBSs went the way of the dinosaur.
I should note, by the way, the reason that I know Julian Sanchez, Aphid, Martin O, Ray, and several others friends and associates of the Jakeneck crew is BBSing. We all used to frequent the same "boards" as we were all in the same local calling range, and that's where we got to know one another. In fact, I made the ANSI login screen for Julian's board, Surreality, long before we'd ever met in person, which transpired at random years later at a Rushkoff reading at KGB Bar.
Ah, the days of WWIV, PC Board, Renegade, Telegard, Vision-X, Hermes, Wildcat, and Waffle... "Door" games like Foodfight and TradeWars... FidoNet and WWIVnet (primitive messaging networks like UseNet which linked the message boards of various BBSs together). However could we forget?
Welp, those looking to reminisce further about the good old days of "0-day warez" downloaded with 9600 baud momo's (that'd be 9.6kbps compared to today's 56kbps standard), long before the age of MP3s, when e-mail was still clandestine, and we cranked out ASCII-zines like "Popular Perversity" for fun; or for those whose curiosity is now piqued by this simply flabbergasting post, a new seven-part documentary film about the history of BBSing is currently wrapping up, and pre-orders are now being taken for an exceptionally swank three DVD box set, which will be released in December.
Someone wanna buy me a nifty Chanukah present?

Superman's dead,
and the day means nothing
the ears tingle
to the cold
Superman is dead
and he was super
a new fighter
for health and reform
Superman is dead!
we will miss him
We will remember him,
we will remeber him.
Superman is dead.
And i an wishing,
for a cure for kryptonite
some help and sacrifice,

Something's up with indymedia, and it ain't right.
On Thursday, Rackspace Servers, UK, was given a subpoena to hand over 2 IMC servers, for a reason still currently unknown to the IMC community. As to who issued the subpoena, it was either the Swiss, Italians, or FBI, depending on the day of the week.
For a network that was created to cover the protests of the Seattle WTO conference/protest/riots, and as a central site in planning protests, direct actions, I do understand that some things on these servers, buried in the back, might be interesting to some government officials. And given the War on Terror, like the equally bullshit War on Drugs, means our civil liberties at home and abroad are being suspended. However, the mods of IMC are good about picking stuff up, usually.
Of course, as I reported in July, the Cyprus IMC founder and activist Petros Evdokas was investigated at the request of the FBI "see whether he was a threat to US interests."
As of today, IMC still is unaware of the reasons for the seizure, and Rackspace appears to be under a gag order as to why, or they themselves do no know. According to a FBI spokesman, the FBI is not behind it, but acting for a 3rd party. Very interesting, and another blow to journalists.
for developments...

Ban On Hemp Foods/Cosmetics Lifted
The Bush administration has abandoned its battle to ban hemp food and cosmetic products. You may now return to abusing your hemp lip balm.
The Freegan Revolution
"Freegan" comes from the term vegan - a person who does not eat meat or animal products for health or ethical reasons. Freegans take it one step further by eating food thrown away by stores and restaurants, to avoid waste and limit their impact on the environment. They say that by not buying food, they're boycotting a capitalist consumer society that needlessly slaughters animals and harms the environment by mass-producing nonessential food, much of which ends up in landfills.Full story.

Open Thread
Tonight, i was at the Brad Carson v Tom Coburn debate, carrying a sign and making noise for Carson. I noticed a large sign, from the 10 Coburn suporters (and there were 80 Carson supporters there being very loud) that read "Carson is a liberal"
I never understood the liberal is a 4 letter word argument. America is a liberal country.
2. Is there a difference between "Compassionate Conservatism" and "Friendly Fascism"?
hate to bring up the f word, but, really, are you better off, now, 4 years ago?
Do either canadates make you happy, and what could be done to reverse the better-of-2-evils strategy of american voting??????
