total recall

So this CA recall thing is really going to happen. I'm still really split on it because Grey(face) Davis is such a piece of shit. He really deserves this. He's been cozy with big business and the only union he's helped out is the prison guards.

As happy as I'd be to see him go, the recall process has been far from democratic; rather it's been a one man show. Congressman Darrell Issa has pretty much single-handedly financed the effort using profits from his Viper car alarm company, offering petitioners $1 per valid signature. You've probably heard his voice proclaiming "You are too close to this vehicle, please move away" eminating from a car at some point. Kind of ironic that he was charged with stealing his own Mercedes.

Now that it's on, it's a free for all. Candidates have until Aug 9 to announce their candidacy, and anyone can do it for a small fee. From the GOP we're expecting Arnold "True Lies" Schwartzenegger, Issa, Riordan and a handful of others. From the Democrats: other than Davis it could be Diane Feinstein, another of CA's most conservative democrats. Us lefties don't have any great options.. Green Peter Camejo will run and there's an effort to draft Arianna Huffington, but a split vote will only ensure a GOP victory. The only decision I've been able to make about the whole thing is that I won't be adding my name to the ballot.
